GMAT/GRE : Required

Letters of recommendation :  if an applicant has applied within the last two years and received a decision, only one letter is required. One of these recommendations should be written by a current supervisor or manager. The second recommendation should be from someone who can evaluate the applicant’s professional performance as well as their managerial and leadership potential (e.g. a former supervisor, previous employer, client, etc.) If applicants are unable to ask a current supervisor or manager for a letter of recommendation, they should include a brief statement regarding their choice in the Additional Information section of Part II of the application

3. What drives your interest in these short and long-term goals? 150 characters

Essay Instructions: Please include the essay prompt in bold at the top of the page. Please use 12-point Times New Roman font, line spacing at 1.5 lines and 1-inch margins

Essay 1 : Leadership and teamwork are integral parts of the Kellogg experience. Describe a recent and meaningful time you were a leader. What challenges did you face, and what did you learn? (450 words)

Essay 2 : Pursuing an MBA is a catalyst for personal and professional growth. How have you grown in the past? How do you intend to grow at Kellogg? (450 words)

Additional Information : If needed, use this section to briefly describe any extenuating circumstances (e.g. unexplained gaps in work experience, choice of recommenders, inconsistent or questionable academic performance, etc.)

Video Essay Info : After submitting a completed application, each applicant will be asked to complete two Video Essay Questions. One will be about the candidate’s interest in Kellogg and the other will be a “getting to know you” type of question.

There are 10 practice questions which candidates can complete as many times as they like to get comfortable with the format and technology. The practice questions and experience will simulate the actual video essay experience, so this is meant to be a useful tool and help applicants feel prepared.

There is not an opportunity to re-do the answer to the official video essay questions. We encourage applicants to practice so they are comfortable with the format once it is time to complete the official questions.

Candidates will have 20 seconds to think about their question and up to 1 minute to give their response.

We estimate the Video Essays will take 15-20 minutes to complete – which includes time for set-up and answering all the practice questions.

Sample Essays

Assume you are evaluating your application from the perspective of a student member of the Kellogg Admissions Committee. Why would you and your peers select you for admission, and what impact would you make as a member of the Kellogg community? (600 word limit).

Thinking from the point of view of a Kellogg student, I would want any newcomer to my peer group to be an active, energetic, diversely talented, experienced, articulate and contributing person. Keeping this in mind, I earnestly believe my peers’ expectations will be well met as I will bring to the class a varied experience, consisting of Upstream Energy industry, strong analytical skills, and insights about Energy industry, Indian business ecosystem and diverse life interests.

……. I scored highest marks in almost every open-book exam and lab work during my stay at IIT and performed outstandingly during my Oooo training, scoring the highest marks among 300 new recruits. At Kellogg, where academic excellence is relentlessly pursued, I believe my proven track record in the academic arena will make me fit right in.

……Multiple involvements keep one focused, occupied and energetic and infuse various business skills such as leadership and inter-personal skills, which become important tools to achieve career growth. I have never confined myself to the academic arena only, but have organized and won many national technical events/exhibitions. I was the Founder of the Robotics Club in college which was later merger with models section. …………..of events like KWEST, Kellogg Cares and Kellogg Corps.

As a member of this elite club, I will be able to offer my contributions as an energy professional……….I have worked with contractors & workers on rigs and with top management, including CMD and directors- gaining a 360 degree view of energy profession.

Kellogg Strategy Club is another exciting forum which attracts me. I learnt the working of energy sector and contributed a lot towards its performance improvement by identifying areas of concern and formulating new KPIs and formulas. I feel confident that I can contribute well to other sectors too. I would share my knowledge on Performance enhancement and actively participate in case studies, culling real instances and experiences.
